Makati, Quezon City, Ortigas: Where to work?

Everyone has a dream job and with that, a dream job location too. College students are thinking about this already, and when they do, they think about the accessibility and availability things — restaurants, grocery stores, public transportation.

I asked some college students to react to this statement: I want my first job to be located in: (1) Makati, (2) Quezon City, or (3) Ortigas. And here are their responses:

Christina: When I was younger, my dream job location was Makati City. Complete with its tall buildings, busy streets, and no nonsense attitude, Makati has been all about serious business to me. It’s like the New York City of the Philippines. But now Makati seems to be all about traffic and crowds. So now I would choose Quezon City. It’s not far from home, which means less stress for me.

Justin: I want my first job to be located in Makati because almost every great company chooses Makati as place for business. And everything would be accessible in that place.

Raya: I always thought of working from home. You know, doing freelance. Or just continuing my father’s business. But if I were to work somewhere else, I would say Quezon City. It’s near where I live, and I don’t know – the towering buildings and skyscrapers of Makati and Ortigas intimidate me. I can’t help but think they’re going to eat me alive!

Stephanie: Quezon City, since it is more accessible from our house and there are many good companies to choose from. Plus there’s better public transportation and more affordable lunch options.

Cedrick: Makati. All the companies I want to work for are located there.

Laika: I want my first job to be located in Makati because of the prestige offices and ‘sosyal’ co-workers. Plus there are many fun things to see and do in the area.

Molly: I want my first job to be in the Pasig/Ortigas area since it is more accessible from our house and there are many ‘gimikan’ or places to hang out.

Ronn: I’m really not particular with workplaces, as long as I am well compensated, happy with my colleagues and close to my friends.

Based on this group, the students intend to continue living at home, and don’t want to stray too far in finding that first job.

I’m in! In all honesty, I’d worked in Makati and Ortigas before. My dream job location is anywhere in Metro Manila, specifically in Makati, Pasay, Ortigas or Quezon City. I’m situated here in Pasay and currently working in Makati. Nowadays, when people heard a person is working in Makati, esp. along Ayala Avenue, they would think you are “high-class”, “big time” etc.. It’s wrong, and I always smile when I hear them saying that.

All the said locations were accessible through MRT, so I will not had hard time traveling.
