For elementary students, contestants should write an essay in Filipino answering the question “Kung nabubuhay si Rizal ngayon, ano ang nais mong sabihin o itanong sa kanya?” (“If Rizal were alive today, what would you like to say to him or ask him?”) Contestants from high school should express their ideas or feelings towards a character in either of Jose Rizal’s novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo in the context of today’s Philippine society and political reality. The essay should show a study of Rizal’s characters that leads to a better understanding of his ideas in his novels and contemporary Philippine society.

Whoever wins in the division level shall compete in the regional level competition. The top three (3) regional winners will be submitted to the DepEd Special Events Unit by 31 October 2011.
